Your communications & outreach strategy makes all the difference in getting your message out…
Hi! My name is Lindsay K. Saunders and I’m a communications and outreach pro, community builder & issue advocate.
I spent 2019 working for North Carolina state government healthcare programs during the day and supporting civic engagement for the Raleigh municipal elections by night. Before that, I spent October 2017 to November 2018 serving overseas with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) at the U.S. Embassy in Lusaka, Zambia. In May 2018, I was recognized with a United States Embassy Award “for exceptional initiative in promoting information and outreach for USAID’s Health Office.”
As a communications and outreach expert, with 14 years of professional experience, I’m devoted to public service and eager to continue on the path in government, nonprofit, or progressive political-oriented work, whether in N.C., regionally, nationally, or at another post overseas.
I gravitate towards community-oriented, writing, editing, strategy and strategic opportunities for a cause. My passion lies in bringing people together on issues that matter and devising a strategy for a message that makes a difference. I have a drive to make organizations and people more successful, particularly with regard to community issues like education, health, economic development and equality.
Pitch to the Media
I’ve handled media relations in my jobs at the NC Department of IT, USAID/Zambia, and the NC Department of Health and Human Services, but I’ve also independently had a few op-eds published in The News & Observer. The most recent one was in February 2020 when I pitched a story and had an article published about the housing crisis. It got picked up by both The News & Observer and The Charlotte Observer.
Featured in an Alumni Spotlight
In March 2018, the East Carolina University English Department interviewed me for an Alumni Spotlight article.

Through hard work, she has achieved her dream job of working at the American Embassy in Lusaka Zambia for the United States Government. Lindsay agreed to be a Spotlight for the English department and through her interview, tells of her education, journey, and advice she wants to give to potential students, interested in following their passions.
